Biographical / Historical

Dating back to 1986, the "Puttin' on the RITz" dinner sponsored by the Department of Food, Hotel and Travel Management, now theDepartment of Hospitality & Tourism Management was developed by students and faculty as a means of fundraising for the Rochester Institute of Technology Hospitality Education Fund. Over the years, the dinner has grown from a gathering of approximately 60 alumni, family, faculty and friends in Henry's restaurant on the RIT campus to a gala event that caters to more than 300 guests.

The well-attended Puttin' on the RITz dinner is student managed and organized to afford students the opportunity to showcase what they have learned in their coursework, and apply their newly learned skills to the real world of hospitality. Students manage all the logistics and details—from selecting location to fully taking charge of the kitchen—the event never fails to delight all its guests.
