Scope and Contents

The William A. Reedy Memorial Lecture in Photography collection contains press releases, clippings and articles on the lecture series and Mr. Reedy, invitations, programs, and speech scripts. Most programs contain short biographies about the lecturer. Also included in the collection are Reedy Memorial Lecture Associates Board of Directors meeting minutes and lists, correspondence, and a list of past Reedy lecturers (up to 1986). Some of the lectures have been captured on VHS tape, audiocassette tape, and on CD's. These include the 1986 speakers Hiro, Davidson, and Hayes, Sheila Mestzner in 1990, and Greg Heisler in 1992.

Biographical / Historical

Photographer and editor William A. Reedy was best known for creating the quarterly Eastman Kodak publication Applied Photography. Reedy died in December, 1975. In honor of his pursuit of excellence in photography, RIT and Kodak's Professional and Finishing Markets Division established the lecture series. The first was held in November 1976 and featured Rudy Miller. The lecture was often carried out twice a year, one in spring and one in fall. Other speakers included Vince Lisanti (1977), Martin Goldsholl (1978), Saul Bass (1979), and Annie Leibowitz (1991).

Arrangement

The folders are arranged alphabetically with materials in each folder arranged chronologically. Due to unidentifed nature of many of the cassette tapes, they are not organized in any particular fashion.
