Collection on Ralph Avery
Scope and Contents
The Collection on Ralph Avery contains articles and clippings regarding artist Avery. Also included are two sets of photocopies of Avery's artwork sales. The first set includes sales to individuals from February 23, 1952 to December 4, 1975. The second set includes commercial works from 1956 to 1975.
Added to the collection is an 18 x 18 inch 1977 Case Hoyt Calendar In Memory of Ralph Avery. On the cover of the calendar is a portrait of Ralph Avery painted by Stanley Gordon, and it reads: The watercolors of Ralphy Avery have left an indelible mark on everyone who knoew his work. He was a truly gifted artist, and above all, a good friend. Although he was a native Georgian, his love of Upstate New York was clearly evident in his watercolors. Over the years we have been privileged to reproduce many of his paintings. And we could think of no better way to illustrate our calendar for 1977 than to use the creations of Ralph Avery once maore. In a way, the paintings were selected by Ralph himself. The six were found in his studio after he passed away in 1976 and must have been among his favorites. They show the wide range of his great talent, from the Avery you might find on the cover of Reader's digest to the Avery he painted solely for himself. Yes, this calendar is in memory of Ralph Avery the artist. But, like time itself, the mark of this man lives on.
