Scope and Contents
The Joseph Benenate photograph collection contains one color image of the English Lake District. The landscape image depicts Keswick in the mid 1980s. Entitled "To Norman," the photo was given to Norman Biggart. Biggart was a 1949 graduate of RIT with a degree in photography.

Biographical / Historical
Joseph Benenate was born September 1, 1923 in Woburn, Massachusetts. He graduated from the Massachusetts College of Art. In 1972 he came to RIT and taught color, design, and photography in the School of Photographic Arts and Sciences. Benenate traveled the world and exhibited his photographs at the Vatican Library gallery, Oxford University, and the University of Glasgow.
In particular, he was known for his photos of the English Lake District. A collection of Benenate's photography is held by the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris. Joseph Benenate died April 15, 1994 in Woburn at age 70.

The Joseph Benenate photograph was gifted to RIT in October, 1999 by RIT graduate Norman B. Biggart.
