Historical Information: Phi Gamma Dektol
Phi Gamma Dektol took its name from the chemical dektol, which develops black and white photographic paper. The fraternity was started in 1948 by a group of photography students. In the Techmila yearbook for that year, four students claimed membership. The following year, Phi Gamma Dektol grew to 24 members. An unofficial fraternity, Phi Gamma Dektol was more of a social club for photo majors. Former student George Paragamian described the fraternity, "All we did was go over to this Italian restaurant that had a room downstairs and every two weeks or so we'd have a big blast with beer and singing." (RIT: The University Magazine. Spring, 2005). It is unclear when the fraternity disbanded.
