Biographical / Historical
The Media Production Center at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) appears to have started as the Media Design Center. Around 1970, the Division of Instructional Development and Planning was formed. This group included a department for Instructional Research and Development (IRD). The Media Design Center was part of IRD, along with the Instructional Television Center, Instructional Resource Laboratory, and Research Center. According to one brochure, the Media Production Center was formed to "provid[e] faculty and administration services in design, development, and production of visual and audio materials for instruction." The department offered audio, graphic, photographic, and production services to the RIT community. As of 2011, similar services were provided by RIT's ETC Production Services department.
