Biographical / Historical
Born in New Haven, Connecticut April 23, 1947, Michael Kleper earned an Associate of Applied Science degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1968. He then went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Graphic Arts from the School of Printing at RIT in 1969, and a Master of Science degree in Graphic Arts in 1972. Kleper became an Assistant Educational Specialist for the Printing Technology Program at RIT’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf in 1969, advancing to an Associate Professor position in 1978. He was an expert, educator, and author in the fields of phototypesetting, printing, digital publishing, and imaging technology for over 30 years. Kleper has published books that chronicle the history, development and practical applications of the typesetting and publishing process, including manual, mechanical, automatic and digital methods. Kleper was named the Paul and Louise Miller Distinguished Professor in the School of Printing Management and Sciences (SPMS) in 2001.
