Biographical Note
Jere Osgood (1936-2023) was an American studio furniture designer and woodworker. He was born and raised in Staten Island, New York, and later studied architecture at the University of Illinois for two years. In 1959, Osgood enrolled in the School for American Craftsmen program at RIT, where he was taught by Danish furniture maker Tage Frid. In the 1960s, Osgood established his own studio in Connecticut, creating both small ojbjects (like bookends) and larger furniture pieces. During his career, he developed a technique for bent, tapered laminations and taught fine woodworking in formal programs and workshops. In 2002, he was honored with the Award of Distinction by The Furniture Society. Osgood's processes and craftsmanship had a large impact on the American studio furniture landscape and legacy. He passed away in 2023.
