Historical Information: Veteran's Day Concert

The Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) can trace its origins to the founding of the Rochester Athenaeum in 1829. Over the course of the next century and a half, the school grew into a prominent university in the field of technical education. As enrollment numbers increased and additional programs were added to the curriculum, the university eventually outgrew its campus in the city of Rochester. During the early 1960s, RIT's Board of Trustees voted to relocate the Institute to a new campus in the city's suburbs, specifically in Henrietta.

Building a new campus from the ground up was a costly endeavor. Several campaigns were launched to raise funds for the move. WHAM, a local radio station, hosted a Veteran's Day Concert and Dance on November 11, 1964 as a fundraiser for the project. The event cost $1 per person and featured music by the Glenn Miller Orchestra, the renowned big band group. Held at the Rochester War Memorial, all proceeds from the concert went to RIT's New Campus Fund.
