Biographical / Historical
The Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Evening Student Association (ESA) was formed in 1964 as the Evening College Student Association. The group was created to serve a similar role for the evening students as the day student's Student Association. Its first event, a dance titled "Getting to Know You," was held on May 22, 1964. Over the next few years, the group sponsored various events for RIT's evening school students including beer and pizza socials, Christmas parties, Valentine's Day dances, and summer picnics.
In addition to organizing social activities for students, the group provided a variety of services. For instance, the ESA sponsored a registration orientation each fall, published a regular newsletter, compiled a yearbook, and offered a math lab to students needing help in any mathematics course. For a $1 membership fee, any evening student could participate in these activities and services.
The organization's stated purposes were:
Records of the Rochester Institute of Technology's (RIT) Evening School Association. The collection includes correspondence, fliers, course schedules, newsletters, and other miscellaneous materials.
Materials are contained in three folders. Items are arranged by type.
