Scope and Contents

The Hy Kreitzman collection on Achille Forgione documents some of the work, process work, and life of sculptor Achille Forgione. The original art work in the collection includes many examples of his medal designs for the Rochester Numismatic Association, an original painting, and several sketches. There is also a scrapbook (disbound) containing thorough photographic and process documentation of his sculpture "The Rooster with an Attitude." Finally, the collection includes a memorial scrapbook (disbound) presumably on display at his funeral in 2009. This scrapbook features highlights of the artist's life, clippings, programs, and other images of his work.

Biographical / Historical

Achille Forgione Jr was born on April 30, 1928. He graduated from an art and design program at RIT. He also served in Korea. Some of Achille’s work is at The Al Sigl Center, Temple B’rith Kodesh, and Project Hope in the Upper Mt. Hope Neighborhood. He also was commissioned to create the 75th anniversary medal for the Rochester Numismatic Association. Their website, which contains images of multiple medals in his collection, is http://www.rochesternumismaticassociation.org. Achille was also the second cousin of St. Padre Pio. He passed away at the age of 81 on May 16, 2009.
