School of Printing class newspapers
Content Description
Newspapers and newsletters produced by the School of Printing Management and Sciences and RIT's Technical and Education Center of the Graphic Arts. Titles include "RIT Journalist," "Impressions," and "T & E Center." Also included are a set of historical front pages, printed by Newspaper Production II. According to Amelia Fontanel, the Newspaper Production classes had access to both student journalist content and AP Newswire content, so the papers include both local and national news stories as space allows. The papers were printed on a Goss community printing press.

Provenance
Amelia Hugill-Fontanel received materials from retiring professor in the School of Media Sciences John Eldridge. These papers are part of what came out of Eldridge's office - the rest are currently house in the Cary Collection. Complete list of materials donated (from AHF): • 2 cases full of type (I put these right in the printmaking studio, so they will stay as CAD property.) • One experimental 3-D printed block for letterpress. I had collaborated with John and a student to create this using Cary equipment in 2012, so I thought this realia should come to Cary. • 4 folders of syllabi/tests for various professors teaching offset and letterpress printing from the School of Printing. A draw between the relevance in Cary vs. Archives—I’m fine with this going to Archives. • 1 monotype matrix case. We have this kind of realia in Cary. • 2 books about various printing presses we hold in Cary • 1 book about the Rochester Printing House Craftsmen—Cary has an archive related to this. • One set of about 30 proofs on newsprint used in newspaper printing, ca. 1992. These were used in a newspaper production class. The proofs were artistic posters from an Absolut Vodka campaign in USA Today so they can be viewed as design product akin to the GDA or industrial testing materials used in printing. I thought they were suited to Cary, especially because of our recent Edelson collection which has materials related to USA Today but I give you the right of first refusal. • The T&E Center newsletters (Archives—Cary has no precedent to collect these.) • The RIT Journalist student newspaper (Archives—Cary has no precedent to collect these.)
